Eyes

The morning ritual (excluding lazy slob days) of eyes' passage to brightness.

Drawing investigations

This isn't a very original pick of an inspirational work but Leonardo da Vinci was always will be an ultimate master of observational drawing and drawing investigations. And I will always look up to him.

Anatomy

This is the result of one of the trips to the anatomy museum. It's quite an unusual object but very usual at the same time. Our hands participate in almost everything we do, every routine or ritual.

Nina in a Fur Coat.

This week I picked a drawing by Russian artist Ilya Glazunov. It's a charcoal portrait. What I find extremely fascinating about this drawing is the transition from an almost photographic quality into gradually flattened image and finally just a few strong marks.

The face a see the most.

Almost not a single day passes without seeing that face.

Simon's Cat

Simon's Cat is one of my favorite comics. I love the simple yet detailed enough drawings and complete knowledge about the subject (cats' nature) that is visible in each piece. And of course I really admire author's sense of humor.

The Lazy Slob Uniform

(fineliner, coloured pens)

A bit of humor this time. Every time I don't have to go anywhere is a lazy slob time which requires comfortable clothing - the Lazy Slob Uniform. I noticed that there a many styles to it that depend on the occasion. I depicted 4 basic ones:
1) 'Ready to Leave the Flat ( if needed) Style' - It's a semi-slob style. The top is baggy and comfortable but there are still nice jeans at the bottom just in case I need to go somewhere so I don't look like I just got up from bed.

2) 'Russian Style' - Stripy top + baggy comfortable pants + woolen boots. This is probably the style I'm in the most.
3) 'Too Lazy to Change after Work Style' - Sainsbury's uniform worn until I go to bed. As the name suggests, I am simply to lazy/tired to change.
4) 'Deadline Tomorrow/ Up All Night/ Sick Style' - The most comfortable style for critical life moments like those like nights before the crit or essay hand-in. It also works well for being sick and sleeping.

Nature Morte

For this week I picked nature morte painting by Bernard Londinsky. I am impressed by extreme realism of his works.

Men's best friend

Like many, I appreciate some nice tea.
Different tea depending on the mood.
Specific tea from a specific container.
Here are 3 most popular containers on my tea shelf: glass honey jar for caramel flavored tea, black Old Moscow tin for strong black Ceylon Tea and purple plastic container for mild  black Assam.
I tried different techniques to differentiate the materials of the containers (that happen to be made out of 3 different things) and emphasize 3 different moods.

MariaLea

This is a print by Hans Oldau Krull. I chose it as my inspiration because I like how he uses black and white sketch to create a vibrant multi leyered print. I find this work very inspiring and I would love to try to apply some of the techniques used for it to diversify my sketches.

Masks are watching

Location drawing is a part of college routine. These are eyes of the masks in the National Museum of Scotland. I drew them in response to Andrea's haiku about masks staring at George.
Masks are ritual objects worldwide. This is why I decided to include them in this project.

Ecyclopedia

I've always admired encyclopedic illustrations of  animals and vegetation. When I was younger I dreamed of becoming an illustrator for a thick encyclopedia or atlas. So may this great example of encyclopedic illustration be the inspiration of this week.

Passion

Passion for Fruit

Edinburgh doesn't give me enough sun light. I would most probably be depressed by now if not my simple magic trick - fruit. They are not only tasty but also extremely aesthetically pleasing. Like this passion fruit. I had difficulties throwing the empty skin away as it was so beautiful. So I decided to draw it.

Tale of Tales

Although my animation is nowhere near being as well animated Yuri Norstein's Tale of Tales, I was strongly influenced by it. I find it ispiring not only because of the aesthetic reasons but also by the amosphere it creates and the humongous amounts of work put in it. For those who haven't seen it I strongly recomend it.

Dancing with foxes

For the past week my daily routine was all about foxes. Drawing, editing, scaling them and putting in the right place. Many different foxes just to animate one dancing. Here's a still from my rough-amature animation.

Movement

This is a painting by Polish realist Wojciech Kossak. I chose this painting because of its dynamics and Kossak's incredible ability to capture movement. Although it is a flat image you can almost feel the ground vibrating under the hooves of galooping horses.

Bellydancing

Bellydancing classes are my Monday evening's routine or perhaps it's a ritual. Ritual dancing?
This is why I decided to bring a sketchbook to one.
My aim was to capture movement.

Amazing everyday objects

Inspiration for his week - everyday objects, like this silver teapot, drawn by Marcello Barenghi. Great example of insightful observation and hard work.

No time for proper breakfast

I looked through my drawigs and suprisingly this one appeared to be the most appropriate to start a routine blog with. No time for proper breakfast is a part of my everyday artist/student routine.

 (quick sketch, fineliner and pencil)

I guess small everyday objects and people around me are going to be the main focus of my Routine & Ritual blog.
